Innovation

Each Propex solution is the result of the comprehensive innovation, design, production and testing involved with our innovation process. From refining existing solutions to the development of groundbreaking new solutions, each project is managed by a core team of specialists and engineers who work with a wide range of in-house tools and resources, including pilot equipment designed to emulate processes, expedite trials and test the flexibility of various processes without interrupting production. Teams also employ the Propex research lab and work with numerous independent testing and research labs to ensure the world’s broadest scope of fibers and nonwoven and woven textiles through extensive product development, assessment and end-use testing.

Organized as a series of phases, including planning, concept development, prototyping, testing, scale-up, commercialization and market launch, the process consistently ensures the cost-efficiency, effectiveness and, ultimately, customer satisfaction with each Propex product. As a result, Propex is responsible for some of the industry’s most significant innovations:

e3® Fiber Technology
This patented breakthrough enables us to engineer our fibers for secondary concrete reinforcement three ways: by length, thickness and mix ratio. Together, these three properties enhance Propex polypropylene fibers by facilitating a faster dispersion in the concrete mix.
Macro-Synthetic Fiber Technology
Representing a quantum technological leap in concrete reinforcement fibers, our high-performance polymer macro synthetic fibers are made from a revolutionary material that offers the long-term performance of steel fibers at a lower dosage rate. The unique sinusoidal, wave-like shape of each fiber serves to anchor it firmly within the concrete, while the design of the fibers allows for addition at a much higher rate per volume unit, infusing the concrete with added levels of toughness, energy absorption and durability.
Matrix™
A revolutionary composite backing that offers the versatility of woven fabric and the dimensional stability of nonwoven fabric, Matrix is equally effective as high-performance carpet backing and in artificial turf applications. Our Matrix carpet backing fabric also features high-performance capability and exceptional tuftability during manufacturing.
X3® Fiber Technology
X3’s three-dimensional pattern creates a thick matrix of voids for trapping and housing more sediment, soil and water required for rapid vegetation growth. X3 is added to our turf reinforcement mats to add additional strength to double vegetation’s natural erosion protection abilities long-term.
Pyramat® 3D Woven Technology
With more than 10 times the strength of standard TRMs, Pyramat HPTRM tames even the steepest slope and aggressive storm water channel applications. The perfect alternative to rock riprap and other hard armor, Pyramat uses a patented 3-D woven homogenous construction to create pyramid-shaped voids that trap water and seed for faster, more effective vegetation growth. Considered the most sophisticated vegetation-enhancing mat on earth, Pyramat’s exceptional UV resistance makes it the preferred TRM in arid and semi-arid environments or other applications where a full stand of vegetation is not expected.
CURV
A self-reinforced, single-polymer thermoplastic composite weighing as much as 50% less than comparable glass-reinforced materials, CURV is used in a variety of applications, including protective clothing, sports equipment and automotive components. Made of highly drawn, 100% polypropylene, CURV is manufactured through an exclusive melting process that gives it the strength to withstand extreme impact, especially in low temperatures.
